This mini-album was composed and recorded shortly after I moved to Seattle from California. Most of my gear was still packed away and I didn’t have the cognitive wherewithal to set it back up. With that in mind, I used that time to build comfort with VCV Rack.

Conceptually, these tracks, along with the artwork, are designed to fit within the larger world that I explored in 2020’s “Dungeness Synth” and my subsequent “Crustacea” minizine. “The Nomad Sky” and “Nashira” thematically explore the constellation and zodiac sign Capricorn interpreted by 19th century German astronomers Ch. Ludwig Ideler and G.W.S. Beigel. “a furtive world of bats” and “a furtive world of bats, part 2” were both informed a poem by Gail Mazur, and were originally composed as a prompt from Mark Wiedenbaum’s Disquiet Junto prompt 476 (“IAH Forecast”). “Fejervarya” is a direct continuation of some of the narrative I explored on “Dungeness Synth” about existential threats to expand to the world of natural predators.

The digital download includes bonus tracks for the mono master used for the lathe-cut version of this record and an early mix of “a furtive world of bats.”
